Deborah McLachlan

Painter (watercolour, pastel)

Artist Statement

I describe my work as unfolding. My deep connection with nature and God's creatures, especially the horse, is reflected in my work. I have been painting for almost 30 years. I work in both dry-brush watercolour and pastel. My subject matter is wide-ranging including landscape, equine, portraiture and still life. Rural living has provided a great opportunity for me to develop my skill and capture authentic country including the spirit of the horse in my art. My surroundings have been instrumental in discovering the essence of country and critical in maintaining the spiritual centeredness and freedom necessary to satisfy my creative yearnings that is the Dance.

Artist Bio

I began painting original works in the 1990s. I further honed my drawing skills while studying at Sheridan College. Exhibitions of my work have included juried shows in Etobicoke, Brampton, Georgetown, Erin, Grimsby, Terra Cotta, Mississauga, Alton, Milton, and Oakville. I was represented by the Burdette Gallery in Orton, for a time. I was invited in 2000 to exhibit my equine work at the Woodbine Club at Woodbine Racetrack in an exclusive show with well known artist C.A. Baker. I was recently published in the January 2022 Art Ascent Magazine, juried call for entry entitled "People" and again in October 2022 juried call for entry entitled "Summer". I am a member of Headwaters Arts and Fine Arts Society of Milton where I frequently show my work, as well as Art in the Park, Oakville. I also showed my work in the 2024 show Forms, Faces and Spaces. My solo show was hanging at the Millcroft Inn during February and March 2025.
